I figured since people liked my beavertail journal I may as well share some more Canadian foods with you all.

pronounced: poo-teen (English) poo-tin-n (In french - with eng. phonetic spelling)

Sounds appetizing right?

This is a specialty that hails from Quebec.
Poutine is very unhealthy but oh so good if done right. Also very good for those cold winter days.

What's poutine?


It's fries + gravy + cheese curds

You can get a few varieties now with other vegetables on top, but these are the main/classic ingredients.

What are Cheese Curds?

Curds are a dairy product obtained by curdling (coagulating) milk with rennet or an edible acidic substance such as lemon juice or vinegar and then draining off the liquid portion (called whey). -Wikipedia

Cheese curds are little-known in locations without cheese factories, because they should ideally be eaten within hours of manufacture. Their flavor is mild with about the same firmness as cheese, but has a springy or rubbery texture. Fresh curds squeak against the teeth when bitten into, a defining characteristic, due to air trapped inside of its porous body. -Wikipedia

I want to eat one so badly! I was supposed to get one yesterday but ran out of time.
Now its time for a cultural lesson for all my watchers who aren't from Canada (Or from the region...)

Every year during winterlude, a winter festival in Ottawa, they set up stands for beavertails on the rideau canal, the longest skateway in the world.
Luckily there are a few shops open year round so you aren't limited to a 3 week-long festival. And now they branched out to a few more regions across the country.


What is a Beavertail?

It's a pastry. Dough is deep fried then covered with brown sugar and cinnamon. That is the "classic" Beavertail.

There are a ton of variations now, chocolate spread, with apples (sauce), peanut butter, with lemon, shredded cheese etc.

I should probably do a poll and check how many people know what it is.
I wonder how many people thought it was an actual beaver tail = meat.

Cosplay Update
Still hard to find time to work on costumes. Hopefully I can get a lot done at my workshop on the weekend. Not to mention the commission I have to work on. *sigh

My 50,000 video tour of my workshop is coming soon. I had to scrap the last one because it was so jumpy.

I'm going to go see Alice in Wonderland in IMAX3D this weekend as well. I'll let you know how that goes. I have a feeling I will get dizzy and confused. I look forward to seeing the costumes.

SATURDAY
Got to the con at 10:30-11 and instantly saw some familiar faces. It was nice seeing everyone again. First thing was getting changed fully into my Sakura costume. I wasn’t wearing my headdress, wings and the bottom half of my dress.
I spent most of the morning hanging out with *Thornrose and *HexReedfly. Con buddies, turn real life buddies. In fact I met *Thornrose for the first time at last year’s g-anime. Seems so long ago.
I met a fellow deviant ~KyoKisaka. It was nice meeting you.

The con turned out was great in my opinion. There were more people in costume than in regular clothes. And the costumes were great!

I grabbed some Thai for lunch then went to take/get photos. Although I love the con there are few places to take photos. We managed to work with the empty space on the second floor using the bright sunlight. *HexReedfly and I took some photos of ~Kayokou and her bf (Does he have a Da?) in their Naruto cosplays.

Afterwards I got my Sakura photos. Thanks to LL and *HexReedfly for the photos.


Next was getting to the greenroom for the masquerade. They were well organized and the wait wasn’t too long. The always lovely *cocbys was helping keep everyone organized.

My masquerade performance went as planned. It wasn’t until I got off stage that my hands began to shake.

Afterwards I went to a birthday party for two and got to see some old friends from school and more. It kept me up late.



SUNDAY
The hang out day. I went in ‘plain clothes’ for most of the day and threw on my Talim cosplay for a Soul Calibur photoshoot. I hit the dealers room and ended up buying 2 posters and 2 keychains from the same store I always visit.


I went to see my Nanao-chan ~KiraMizuno in the artist alley. Keep up the good work!

I went to the awards ceremony and I was surprised that I won something. Why? I was warned during the masquerade that I would be judged a little harder since I entered the costume in another competition [Otakuthon 2010] where they had some of the same judges. Also one of the judges told me, after winning the award, that my wings still needed work. Agreed. I only put feathers on one side due to time materials and convenience.
So, on that note, I am very grateful to have won Best Workmanship for a Master. My First master award!

You know con season has started when
A. You have completed you first con of the year > G-anime 2010
AND
B. Suddenly everyone wants to order commissions.

A note on this: I may have to start refusing orders because of time constraints. I have less time to go to my workshop, which is 45 minutes out of town, now that I have a 9-5 job. Not to mention I still need to work on my own costumes.
If you want to commission something contact me as soon as possible, so that your order gets priority. Be sure to mention the date by which you need it by.

Commissions will be limited, but orders for already made items in my shop are still open as usual.


G-anime

A full con report is on it's way. I'm just waiting to receive photos and for more of my buddies to post their own stuff on DA.

In summary: G-anime was a blast. I had a great time seeing everyone again and making new friends. The con had a great costume turnout.
